If you live in New York, chances are you have driven on the BQE––a pothole-pocked stretch of pavement winding its way through Brooklyn and Queens, built by Robert Moses in the 1940’s and ’50’s and “under construction” ever since. It is an expressway in name only.
Like its namesake thoroughfare, our BQE Espresso is also “always under construction”––intentionally. A singular blend of select and seasonal coffees, BQE Espresso is up for the challenge of harnessing the energy of its ever-changing component origins. Coffee is the seed of a tropical evergreen shrub. Growers around the world harvest and process a wide range of coffee varietals grown under widely different conditions. The genetics of the plant and the "origin terroir” greatly contribute to the character of the coffee you wind up tasting in the cup. At the Brooklyn Roasting Company we search out the world’s finest coffees and expertly roast them to tease out their many colorful characters. Our coffee team is constantly evaluating the coffees we source (or consider sourcing). At the outset, we measure the moisture content of incoming “green” and then sample roast these lots to determine the optimal profile for each coffee on a larger, commercial scale. We cup each sample roast on rotating stone tables equipped with circulating hot water baths, and a thick, tempered glass surface that floats on zany 1960’s superballs and hula hoops. This playful, colorful backdrop to cupping and assessing coffee–the core of our craft– is a constant reminder to appreciate and unlock the flavors and aromas that characterize the extraordinary beans we buy. Taken together with our “Color of Coffee” tasting approach, this crucial quality control step typifies our “serious but not snobby” approach.

I asked for fine ground beans for espresso, and instead I was sent whole beans. Also, I ordered the coffee on the 4th of September. The order did not arrive to UPS until the 9th and not delivered to me until the 15th, 11 days later. The 11 days or more has become the norm for delivery, but in the not-too-distant past the entire process only took 3-5 days. What is the issue with Brooklyn Roasting company. You are making great coffee. Please don't allow the basic service and delivery fell. Seems like my order just sat for 5 days unfulfilled?
Beans in this can didn’t seem fresh, sorry must be an off day for selection of that one, usually like it, would prefer a roasting date marked on the package

Love this roast! We loved it when we lived in Brooklyn and now have it shipped monthly and I’m so thankful we get to still enjoy it! It’s not as cherry as the Iris, it’s more of a smooth chocolate.
