Ethiopian natural-process coffees are among the most flavorful in the world. They are also known as sun-dried coffees, and tend to have fruitier, more surprising flavors than their washed counterparts.
Sundried on raised beds for up to 17 days, this coffee comes to us from the Durame Village of Kembata, Ethiopia. At 2100 meters above sea level, the soil is extremely fertile and ideal for growing high quality coffee beans. These natural coffee beans express eye-popping florals and fruity notes, resulting in a medium-bodied cup.
The resulting coffee is an extremely complex, well rounded cup marked with notes of blueberry and sweet citrus. We roast these beans on the lighter side, imparting just enough roast to bring out its more subtle floral notes.

Cupping Coffee Is at the Center of Our Craft
Coffee is the seed of a tropical evergreen shrub. Growers around the world harvest and process a wide range of coffee varietals grown under widely different conditions. The genetics of the plant and the "origin terroir” greatly contribute to the character of the coffee you wind up tasting in the cup. At the Brooklyn Roasting Company we search out the world’s finest coffees and expertly roast them to tease out their many colorful characters. Our coffee team is constantly evaluating the coffees we source (or consider sourcing). At the outset, we measure the moisture content of incoming “green” and then sample roast these lots to determine the optimal profile for each coffee on a larger, commercial scale. We cup each sample roast on rotating stone tables equipped with circulating hot water baths, and a thick, tempered glass surface that floats on zany 1960’s superballs and hula hoops. This playful, colorful backdrop to cupping and assessing coffee–the core of our craft– is a constant reminder to appreciate and unlock the flavors and aromas that characterize the extraordinary beans we buy. Taken together with our “Color of Coffee” tasting approach, this crucial quality control step typifies our “serious but not snobby” approach.

Bright and berry-forward is exactly how we'd describe it too. Love the French press setup, Mary Kate. Thanks for the photo and the kind words!
I don't know if I like it because I've not received it after 16 postal days. 2 emails to the company with no response. I've ordered before so very disappointed.
Store owner replied:
Hi Alan,
We are so sorry your package was stuck at the UPS facility for 11 days. We know how important it is to get your coffee fresh, and an 11-day delay is unacceptable.
While shipping delays can happen on the carrier’s end, we want to make sure you’re taken care of. We’ll be reaching out to your email directly to make things right! Thank you for letting us know.
Store owner replied:
Fruit forward is the Ethiopia Natural's whole personality. Glad you're enjoying it, Vince!
This particular bean is truly outstanding. It's complex in a way that I haven't experienced with other Ethiopian beans, despite trying a number of other roasters. If I could only drink one coffee again it would definitely be this one, because it's interesting and on the lighter side.
Store owner replied:
If it's the one coffee you'd pick forever, that's the highest compliment there is. Thanks, Jeremy! We think the Ethiopia Natural is pretty special too.
A delicious and unique coffee! This coffee and the Ethiopian washed are my go to each day and they are both amazing!
Store owner replied:
An Ethiopia Natural and Washed rotation is a pretty perfect way to go. Thanks, Jamie!
It's my best favorite bean in here for hand dripping. Decent price and flavor.
It has took long time to find out best aroma and thickness. Much better to cut in less than 2 min for pouring over time. This fast brewing makes less bitter and more sweetness.
Thank you BRC to provide me this coffee in good price always!
Store owner replied:
Thanks for sharing your pour over method, Jin! Keeping it under 2 minutes for more sweetness and less bitterness is a great tip for anyone brewing the Ethiopia Natural.
Store owner replied:
Ethiopia Natural as cold brew is such a fun move. Thanks for sharing, Ali!
I have been brewing this exclusively for years. I buy it online and is always very recently roasted, only a few days before I receive it. Very flavorful light roast, highly recommend!
Store owner replied:
Years of brewing the Ethiopia Natural exclusively, thank you, Phil! Getting it to you just days after roasting is exactly what we aim for.
Amazing. Get the natural one for the most unique beautiful flavors you will enjoy.
Store owner replied:
Coming out on top after working through that whole list is quite the honor. Thank you, Brian!
My life operates on access to light roast and this bean from Brooklyn Roasters is an excellent choice for pour overs or chemex carafes when getting ready for the day or relaxing into a sunny weekend morning.
Store owner replied:
A Chemex of Ethiopia Natural on a sunny weekend morning sounds just about perfect. Thanks, Adam!
The best Ethiopian beans out there. I tried many Ethiopian beans out there in the market from micro roasters to popular brands sold on markets and coffee shops. This one is by far the most consistent and best tasting light roast out there. It's like drinking a black tea with blueberries and some hints of flowers. I buy 5 lb bags just for myself. Iced also taste great!
Store owner replied:
Black tea with blueberries and a hint of flowers, you really get this coffee! Thanks for the kind words and for going with the 5lb bags.
Been brewing this exclusively for over 6 years, it’s truly my absolute favorite coffee. Everyone who visits asks where I get my coffee from!
Store owner replied:
Six years of Ethiopia Natural, and turning your guests into fans too! Thank you, Erin.
